(2) V8 Throttle Body Swap
(3) Replace factory muffler with a Dynomax or Flowmaster Single 2.5" IN/OUT muffler
(4) Relocate the IAT Sensor
(5) Autolite 3923 Plugs, 180 degree T'Stat

That's for starters.

dude,

once you done what Bernd ask you to change your thermostat to the 180 degree ones and maybe add a transmission cooler. Once you done with that then you could start with the ignition part. Bernd, woudn't you agree? need your 2 cents.

mahalo,

Yup...but the ignition upgrade should be one of the last as they don't really show a whole lot of gains on a stock engine. With upgrades, they do work very well. I've run both MSD and Accel and they both work as claimed.

Tranny-Cooler would definitely help on the automatics.

Hey bernd, quick question on the IAT adjuster. I lengthened the wires on mine so I could install it in the overhead compartment. Will this adversely affect the adjuster since the impedance might be greater? Thanks again for the knowledge!

I got the same 2000 3.9L V6 bare bones and want to make some mods. What is the best Air Intake kit? Also I want to get exhaust but I want a nice deep tone. My friend got a 92 3.9L with Flomasters and it sound kind of ricey. So which exhaust system will give me the deep, close to V8 sound?

Solokota,
A buddy of mine is selling his K&N Generation 2 intake for $150. These intakes retail for $250 and perform great. I'm running currently the K&N, but used to run something similar to the intense performance stage 2 (QuickD). The K&N has about 3K miles; almost new. He is selling to make room for the ram air setup for his new hood. Let me know if your interested.
The 40 series Flowmaster Deltaflow is the deepest exhaust I've heard on a v6. The deltaflow seems to keep its sound throughout the rpm band the best.

SprtTruck: I checked on this on another question just like that. Yes, it affects the actual calibration and, depending on length and wire size, can throw the calibration pretty far off.

Solokota: The best is K&N. However, it depends on your budjet and skill level. The Intense Performance intake tube is an easy installation and doesn't cost a bunch like the K&N. The 7" BigMouth IP Intake tube is more than adequate for even a supercharged V6. On the exhaust, replace the factory muffler with a Dynomax Super Turbo (2.5" IN/OUT).

DeepDak - Thanks for the info but I'm cool off the friends intake system. I want to get my intake and exhaust all at once and I need some more cash first.

bernd- I have been looking at getting the Air Aid intake and from what I hear the kit comes with a K&N filter. If this is true would the Air Aid be just as good as the K&N kit? How much does the Dynomax exhaust cost? I was looking at borla and that is an expensive exhaust. thanks for the reply

Solokota: The AirAir system, while adequate, is no comparison to the K&N. Stick with the Dynomax...I personally don't see spending the money for a Borla (overpriced as is) when the Dynomax (or Flowmaster) will work just the same.

Bernd, other than the cost, what do you think of Borla? I just bought one off ebay, used for only one month and am eagerly awaiting installation.
I just got my headers on last night and went for a short drive today. It seems to shift a lot smoother and have more residual bottom end, but it doesn't leap up into the air anymore when I step on the gas. I guess it will take a day or so for the PCM to completely register the changes?
Also, kudos to Bill Thompson over on moparchat who installed them for me. A beautiful job and reasonable too.

Borla makes a very well built system. Just a bit expensive as compared to the other stainless steel systems on the market.

bernd - are you saying that on my 2000 dak 3.9 a/t
that the best exhaust setup would be to just replace the stock muffler with a dynomax or flowmaster muffler? not dual out, or 3" out??
want a little better sound and performance. Have airaid on it, helped gas mileage.

Go to www.speedtweaks.net; they have everything you'll ever want. Click on their performance kits icon and then click on the v6 packages. This should get you started on the road to more hp. The prices are good; package deals are usually a tad bit cheaper.

It all depends on what you want to do and what type of vehicle it is.

4x2: Runs better at mid-upper RPM HP(3" exhaust)
4x4: Runs better with bottom-mid RPM TQ (2.5" exhaust)

bernd - Since you say K&N is the best and they don't make a FIPK for the v6 does the v8 fit? Also if the Air Raid system uses the K&N filter why is it no as good? Thank You.
