Tina, don't let them get to you. The first thing to do would be to change the fluid and filter if that hasn't been done recently. It could be just a sticky solenoid in the valve body of the trans.

Hey why?, why reply to someone that pulls up an old post if you can't offer any help? Oh that's right, you're perfect and know everything. Takes a real man to chastise a woman just looking for a little advise. What a winner you are.

the 92 to 95 was a RH it does not have the sensor
and sol the first 3 gears are all hydrolic

try a bottle of lube guard red sounds like a
sticky valve

a fluid and filter change may also solve the prob
use good fluid no super tech from walmart or
dextron

ATF +3 or +4
Amsoil universal syn
redline syn

no crap fluids these transmissions are vary fluid
sensitive

Well, I did change the tranny filter and the pan had metal shavings in the bottom, So I guess it's off to purchase another tranny.

42re shift prob
IP: Logged

Message:
Heres the deal, 98 Dakota 4x4 3.9,42re, When I start driving it
seems to start off in anything but 1st gear and then when it goes to
shift gears it revs than locks into a gear and gives me whiplash, this
seems to only occur in two of the gears.
Does this sound familiar to anyone, if so I could really use some
knowledge on how to correct this problem,
And im getting terrible gas mileage
I changed the fluid and filter and checked the cable that connects
to the TB as well.
Thanks

I have read all of the threads and am having issues
with my 1999 DAK reving up to 4K rpm's before
shifting to 2nd gear. I checked the TPS and it's
fine. I just ordered a press. solenoid and am
wondering where the sensor is. I can't seem to find
it anywhere online and all the auto parts places
can't find anything other than the solenoid. I seen
someone else call it a TRANSDUCER and I can't find
anything on that either.

Could be binding inside the tranny at the valve body. Disconnect the linkage outside the transmission and see if the lever at the column moves freely. If it does, the problem is internal to the transmission. (Make sure you block the wheels and set the parking brake when doing this.)

Peggy, any auto parts store should have ATF+4. Not
sure where you got the MS-7176D from.
