Subject: Shift kits and tranny coolers...

I've been doing a lot of research on the web, and I've read a lot about the slop and overlap built into the electronic tranny's...like the 42RE...in order to achieve the smooth, quiet shifts that a lot of "normal" people like. Apparently, the rub is that this causes a lot of excess heat and friction that wears things out. I'm interested in maximizing the longevity of my tranny, and increasing its performance at the same time.

I've heard a lot of good things about the TransGo kits, much of it on this board, and I'm very interested in installing one. I called a couple of tranny shops and asked them about them. One said flat out that they wouldn't recommend them, and they were a shop that's done a lot of racing and performance work. They said that they do them when asked, and then people are upset that the tranny shifts harder?...seems more like ignorance on the customer's part than a problem with the equipment. The other shop didn't say anything about customer dissatisfaction, but did stress the point that it was a 1-way job, and it'd void the tranny warranty.

Sorry for the long post, but my question is...is the TransGo kit REALLY worth it, especially if I risk losing the warranty on my tranny? Or, could I just install a B&M trans cooler, do normal maintenance, and expect the tranny to last the life of the truck? I'm not a racer, I just want some extra performance, and try to help out my truck. Thanks much...
