I installed my headers a while ago and i lost ALOT of lowend power (gained top end though) I currently have a single in dual out setup (unsure of the make)....if i replace it w/ a single in single out setup will I regain a good portion of my low end? How much do you think it would cost me to just try it? Thanks!

Hey Xphile:
Yeah, all the low end probably got moved up because of the reduced backpressure. If you replace the exhaust with a single i/o, some of it should be regained. It would probably cost a lot to do because the whole thing would have to be hacked off and put back on ;-) Good luck man!

IGNORE STEVO!!! EVERYTHING HE JUST SAID WAS TOTALLY WRONG!!!

if you have lost torque, going with a bigger Y, high-flow cat, or tru's won't help you out... they'll just aggravate the situation.

the suggestion to go with single out muffler is a good one. that's about all you can do, short of removing power from the header mod.

the cost of a cat-back system should be about $150 (even cheaper if you just have them cut the muffler in and use on of the current exhaust tips.

That would work but why spend the money replacing a perfectly good exhaust system? Try finding a cheap v8 throttle body and a homebrew cold air intake. That will more than bring back that low end kick, and its cheaper because you can do all this yourself for under a hundred bucks.

hmmm... this thread has attracted some idiotic people today!

one of the MAJOR problems with putting in a V8 TB onto a V6 engine is the DROP in torque. yeah, you increase the intake, but you drop the speed that the air comes in at!

so... replacing your stock V6 TB with a Stock V8 TB will NOT help out your cause. now, adding the cold air will help you out (that is unless you've already made the modification). you need more backpressure, and you'll find that by replacing the muffler with a single out. they are all pretty much the same. however, make sure the diameter of the pipe is 2.5. anything larger than that (in or out of the muffler) will eliminate the gains you are looking for.

oh, and you CAN get a muffler cut in for less than $100.

any other questions, just e-mail me.

i am just curious... do you have a V8 throttle body?

everybody i have heard that has one says that there was no loss in performance and help out some. I have an aftermarket V6 throttle body that was bored, blades thin, torque step added, notches cut under the bores to trick the map signal and a lot more... and it help a WHOLE lot. of course it isnt a V8 throttle body though.. just about the same size though
