Message:
Well i took my truck to the
shop(again) for tran work.
Its been there for 2 days now ;( (imiss it)

After taken my tranny all apart and looking
around they have found the problem why it
seems to not get second gear. They say
it has somthing to do with it locking up
kinda like O/D. They couldn't figure
out why this was happening. But today
the mech told my dad it was happenin from
a sensor. My dad bein busy at work just said
"ok, fix it" and forgot to write down
what was wrong. I am pickin up the DAK
tomarow :) and i will let all you others
with the tin can of a tranny know why yours
isn't gettin second.

My truck has been doing the same thing.....every once in a while it slips hitting second (mainly when its cold and warming up, no problems after that though).....Also i have noticed a couple of times where it has missed 1st gear after shifting into drive from reverse...i just rev the engine a couple of times then it catches---No problems once it warms up though.

I agree that dodge needs to do something about there sh*ty tranys! Everyone I talk to says they are crap. Mine slips almost everytime it shifts from 1st to second, and i'f i'm romping on it, it sometimes slipps from 2nd to 3rd, but not too often. Whatever the problem is and as many people that are having the exact same problem, i think dodge should do do something about the tranys.

sicminds, and lesley, let me know what the guys from the shop say. I have an uncil that can help me tear it appart, i'll get him to look at mine and see what he says, I've just been to busy with work and stuff that i havent found time to go talk to him. So let me know, thanks.

My dak has been in the shop now for a week!
I am going insane drivin a 98 4banger mazda!
I need back my dak! They thought they have had
it fixed a couple times but it keeps doing it again. They claim that it should def be out by
friday! FRIDAY!? thats still 3 days away!!!!! a week and a half without my dak! i am going to cry. They said the part is in the middle of thr tranny/(what ever that means) they said they have to take the whole thing apart to get to it. Its warenty work, so i think thats why its taken so long! I should sue!

I saw a post earlier by Bernd, suggesting that the slipping and hunting could be the governor pressure solenoid. It is inside the tranny. Perhaps that is what your guy is referring to sicminds. I should have mine back either tonight or early tomorrow.

Damn rooknute, i will when the time comes.

Lesley, Thats prob it, he tried to make it sound
like it had something to do with over drive.

But isn't the governor what stops me from going over 115? Because i keep tryin to push past it and that is probaly why it is messed up.

Different Governor! This one is like a sensor in
the tranny.
I just got mine back. As well as the governor,
have them check the transducer. Mine were both
shot. One of them tells the tranny when to shift,
the other relays what gear it is in. (Is that
right Bernd?)
I just took it for a little drive, what a
difference! I can't wait to try my luck at the
track again, I'm sure this was responsible for the
dissappointing times I had.

There's three sensors that you need to replace with the updated units from Mopar:

(1) Overdrive Solenoid Pack
(2) Transducer
(3) Governor Pressure Solenoid (known for failing)

The easiest way to describe the sensor failure (or starting to fail): "Shift Nirvanna", where it doesn't really know what gear to stay in (and shifts at random), and/or shifting really late in all gears, and/or sticking in 1st gear and hitting the rev-limiter (will shift if you let off the accelerator pedal).

Changing out all the sensors takes about 2-3 hours....with a filter and fluid change.

BTW: You do not have to remove the valve body to fix the sensors. Dodge replaces the entire valve body as "Warranty Work" (it's cheaper for them labor-wise than to replace the sensors).

"Slushbox" was the slang term for the old GM 2-Speed Powerglide automatic transmissions. (Not the Mopar transmissions.)
