Good or Bad? I was just wondering. i'm using two bottles of it in each gas tank. There is a better idle, quicker start up time, and i seem to be able to "roast" my tires alot more often now. Should i be using this or not? thanx.

As I understand it and have read many times, octane boost will do nothng or almost nothing for a stock engine.

I understand octane boost helps only when running a hp pcm, turbo, s/c or N2O.

Has to do with cylender pressure and ignition timing.

i use the NOS octane booster +7. and let me tell you that it does work when NA but even better with a little juice. i have never had any luck with those little $.99 bottles that also "clean your fuel system". I think anyone should try the NOS brand octane booster... its a little expensive but works for me

i think u answered ur own question, if the stuff is giving u added performance then u should use it, but i dont know about long term or overuse of the product u are using. for now sounds like ur happy with it so go for it. just my humble opinion.

chad: i'm using the same octane boost as intensedak 39 is, (NOS octane booster +7 w/ nitro methane). My truck is mostly stock, under the hood that is. I've been working on my truck for a year now, and almost all my exterior mods are done, so now i can begin under the hood.

Don94: yes i did kind of answer my own question. I'm sorry. It is helping so i know it works, but w/out knowing actual gains, i wasen't to sure. Plus i just wanted to know if it is really worth the $20 worth of boost and $30 worth of gas. thanx for the imput though! :)

To all: i suggest you try this stuff. Can be found at a discount auto store. have fun!

The real question still remains. Does anyone know if ocatane boost will damage your engine? Or form some sort of build up in time?

No octane booster will not harm your engine over long term use, it actually cleans out deposits so your engine wont detonate.

I was at the track last year and ran 2 runs without NOS octane boost and then 3 runs with it, the night had even gotten cooler and it made no difference what so ever in times.

Think what you want about it but I think its the placebo effect.

According to NOS tech engineers the NOS octane booster +7 w/ nitro methane was made for high performance engines running mostly wide open. Ther reason that was told to me is the particular mixture will in the long run produce large carbon build up eventually clogging your engine. I was advised not to use more than the NOS off road actane boost in my stock engine.
The NOS octane and NOS off road octane booster have a low grade cleaner to keep the build up low.
Now of course the NOS tech did tell me that these two mixtures could be run at what ever fuel/octane boost mix ratio you wanted.
They do the testing from low to high mixters to insure the end customer will be happy with the results.
If you would like you can get the phone # for NOS tech's by going to " www.nosnitrous.com "

Octane boosters make your gas harder to
ignite.
You are actually running less efficiently.
Try moth balls instead. Put the money in your
pocket rather than handing it to the
government.

Hold up on the moth balls TEAMFAST! Yes they may increase combustion, but have you ever taken a coffee can put a little gas in it and then dropped in a moth ball? They melt, and just think what happens when you burn it. That moth ball that melted in the fuel created some cool hp, but the crude left behind is a bet hard to get out of your engine and exhaust system. That's worse than running racing octane boosters in your regular everday ride. You actually increase the clogging effect; trust me I know. I have a little background in the low budget back street boosters, and thats not one to use often.
Stepdogg remember its your ride what you put through you engine is your deal, but I would not advise the moth balls.

The old-fashioned moth balls didn't do that...yes I used to play around with Denatured Alcohol, Moth Balls, Toulene, and a few other "tricks" as well.

I also ran the NOS Race octane booster w/nitro (+7 as Greg calls it) for close to two years. If you run it on and off (as in not all the time) you'll be fine.

FazDak: If you just added a bottle after those two runs...it needs to me mixed in with the fuel (either on fill up or jumping up and down on the bumper) and takes about two runs to start working. You'll notice with when filling with race fuel as well. Don't expect the fuel to come right in on the first run...there's still regular fuel in the lines. It takes about 2-3 runs to get the full effect of the fuel.

I've never heard of using mothballs before. could someone elaberate a little more?

I have seen a dyno test on a 98 honda civic that had nos race octane booster making 10hp at the flywheel. I think it's mostly due to the nitro methanol. higher octanes only help if your engine is tuned to run them(timing fuel curve etc).

Most production street vehicles, even high performance ones, are not going to benefit from anything higher than the recommended octane. So it only really becomes an issue if you are unfortunate enough to live in a state that has made unavailable the octane your engine was intended to burn (like California).
