depends if the truck came with it... on the left axle tube there should be a tag that says the gear ratio and if its a open of lsd.

2.73 was never an option for the dakotas
if the truck is a sport it has 3.55 sport w/od 3.90 and if it wasnt a sport it had 3.21 this is the options for 87-90. Correct me if i am wrong but this is what knowledge i have gathered.

The magnum powered trucks (92 and up)never had anything numerically lower than a 3.21:1 available. However, the 87 to 91's had a bunch of weird ratios available, especially in the 7 1/4 rear

My 94 Dodge Dakota had its worn out open diff replaced/axle and all. But the axle put in has positraction.
The vehicle is very hard to control on ice/slush/small amts of snow on straight aways, back end keeps breaking loose to the left. Have extra sandbags(400#) to help with traction, new tires, nothing is working. Its very dangerous to drive.
