Subject: Strange whirring noise '93 Dakota 3.7 V6 IP: Logged

Message: Greetings,

 93 Dodge Dakota 3.7 Magnum V6.

Started making this whirring noise when letting
off of the throttle. I've stethoscoped every part
I could think of on the engine including the
alternator, A/C compressor, EGR valve, valve
covers, power steering pump, water pump,
distributor, EGR solenoid, tensioner pulley, fan
clutch, exhaust manifold, oil pan, different
places on the engine block, and the intake
manifold itself. But nothing registers in the
stethoscope!! But when I center my head over the
intake, I have to say it's coming from just
forward of the intake and the manifold. The sound
is definitely louder on top of the engine than the
bottom because I crawled under there and pulled
the throttle body with a string.

 Here's a clip:

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Message: Solved it!

It was an old collapsing vacuum hose that runs
from the throttle body to the PCV valve on the
right valve cover. It was pinching down and making
a whistling / whirring sound. Thanks to Whitten
Bros. Dodge in Ashland Virginia for the tip!
