I just completed a complete rebuild of the 8.25/29 spline, 3.90 rear end in my 99 Dak. Pinion depth/preload good, backlash a bit snug at 006. All hardware torqued to spec. Tooth paint pattern quite good for all new stuff. However, there was a slight whine only during decel/coast, so I added a small amount of additional pinion preload, maybe 10 more in/lbs, per research, which did decrease the decel whine considerably, but it is still there. Just barely. I don't want to add any more pinion preload, as it's probably near 30 in/lbs or more now. I do plan to remove the cover again after break in to re-check backlash and tooth pattern. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.
