 Subject: 87 Dakota 4x4 drive train

Driving down the road, heard a clunk and the power to the drive train is gone. both front and rear. Shifted through all the gears and the transfercase. Not sure what to look for. This is a 3.9 L V6, automatic with 2 speed transfercase. Engin runs fine, about 140,000 on the truck. Any one have any ideas, need a starting place at least. WNL

I would jack the back end up, put it in gear and peak underneath. If the shaft is turning out of the transmission, it's likely the transfer case. If it is not turning, it's likely the transmission.
