Good Day,

Vehicle: 2004 Dakota V/6
Issue: Starter doesn't always engage.

After running an errand, when I turned the ignition key to engage the starter there wasn't even click. All the dash lights came on as they should and there was no dimming of them upon turning the key. A couple of seconds later I tried again and it started right up. I thought perhaps I just did not turn the ignition key all the way. However, upon returning home and shutting the motor off, the little voice in the back of my head was pretty certain I turned the key all the way--- so I tried to start the truck again. Once more, it did not engage and there was no dimming of the dashlights while doing so. Attempted several more times with same result. Nothing. Zip. Zero. Nada. So after going back in the house and cursing for 30 minutes I went back out to try it again. Started right up on the first attempt. Shut it off, tried it again. Started right up. Did it a third time, started right up. Okay. I have a female starter apparently and it needs chocolate. I don't know. HOWEVER, honorable mentions here as there may be something collateral happening: I just had my transmission solenoid box replaced yesterday and the truck has been running a little hot lately. Alright gearheads, any thoughts? Something jump out at you? Thank you for your assistance.

I have a 1997 Dodge Dakota 3.9 doing the same thing. I am replacing the Ignition lock and switch. I saw a video on U Tube that brought me to the conclusion that this is my trucks problem.
PS I had this truck for 15 years.
