Subject: Do I need a receiver hitch?
IP: Logged

Message:
Moving -- pulling a 4 x 6 trailer.
weight unknown.

Plan is to pack bed as full as possible and
trailer as full as possible.

Uhaul says, "I need a receiver hitch plus
wiring for lights etc" which they need to
order....bottom line costing $209.35.

I already have a ball on bumper nothing else...

bumper brackets are damaged and I was told I
should replace them.

My questions are:
1) do I really need a receiver hitch
2) would it be as safe and less expensive to
just replace bumper brackets and use ball on
bumper to tow?

Vehicle:
* 1994 Dodge Dakota Sport standard cab,
* 6' bed
* rear wheeling, (NOT 4x4)
* standard 5 speed, 3.9 V6

Need to know quickly if possible in order to
cancel appointment since they need to order
hitch.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

For 4x6 trailer the stock bumper should be fine.
*** with the brackets replaced*** and if you dont
exceed the weight limits of the bumper. I often
pull a 5x8 2k lbs trailer on my bumper.

Without a hitch you will leave your bumper and trailer in the road, your belonging will be run over by cars, trucks, motorcycles and mopeds.

Uhaul said you needed a hitch and because you are so cheap you came here to get the answer you wanted to hear. You received the wrong answer!
