 Subject: 89 Dakota wont stay running

I have an 89 Dakota manual transmission that is having
trouble starting. It does start but the only way to keep it
running is to pump the gas peddal.
on start the motor will rev to about 2000 rpms and then go
down and will die at about 500 rpms. When I give it gas to try
and keep the rpms up nothing happens but when I let off of the
gas peddal completely it revs back up and then goes back
down and dies. I can keep it running for a few minutes by
pump the gas peddal but it will not drive at all.
I have checked codes and I only get 12 and 55. Please help.
