 Subject: '91 Dakota 4wd indicator light???

Hi wondering if someone can help? I recently bought a '91 Dakota 3.9L 5Sp trans, when I put the shifter in 4wd the indicator light which I am pretty sure is down near the center console does not light up. just wondering if the light does not come on does this mean that there is something wrong, or does it simply mean that the bulb is burnt out???? I have been driving it in 4wd and there seems to be no problems at this point, in goes in and out just fine. any help
