This problem started today and has me concerned. I start my truck and it dies 2 seconds later. I don't even have time to shift out of park. Also, my tachometer has stopped working too. Is this the crankshaft position sensor?

I can keep it running by giving it gas. I don't know if that makes a difference.

It doesn't matter if the engine is cold or hot. I drove it for 30 minutes today, parked the truck and turned it off and then turned it back on and did the same thing.

Thanks for any help,

Steven

Idle Air Control Valve?

Its a cheap part and only takes a plug and two or three screws to install. It goes in the back of the throttle body.

First and foremost, always check for stored codes first. Even if the CEL is not lit. Could be a few things, IAC, the infamous splice, CKP?

I don't have any stored codes, but I'm sure I fixed the problem.

I figured it was the pvc valve so I bought a new one and when I went to replace it I discovered the hose was cracked badly. I've replaced it and it's been working good so far. I'm ok spending $5 on that!

Thanks for the tips though, I do appreciate them.

Good thing we have those super useful PCV valves. What would we ever do without those necessary functions!
