New concords are built by Chrysler. They come with a 3.5 with 255hp. Pulling this all out of my head so I may be a little off. Pretty sure they pull a 16.0 in the quarter.

2.7L Concorde Engine is 200 hp V6... I rented one in Topeka at the RT Dakota meet last year... Will do 110 mph easily... Revs. to 7000 rpm. Pretty amazing performance from such a small motor and big car. We slapped silver RT stickers on it when I got to Topeka, and turned it in that way... Looked pretty damn good. A couple people came up and said "WOW... I didn't know Chrysler made an RT Concorde Lxi.." Weird getting into a car you've never driven before and you know here all the switches are without even looking (laid out very similar to the RT Dakota).

Yeah it is a pretty nice car. There is one around my town that has taken the "RT" approach like you did. I doubt they have done any engine work on it but on the outside, they got some 17 in ? rims, with some Z rated tires. Ones with yellow lettering. Tinted all windows, got a spoiler, small one, and it looks nice. I have had mine up to 115mph. But go scared and slowed up. It was on a road next to a big ass canal. It had a rail between us, but going that fast and that size of car, Id be wet! But yeah, they are nice.

If you are going to get a car with the 2.7 get the Sebring they are smaller and weigh less. They are quite a blast to drive. Almost bought one until I sobered up and bought my first dak. Dodged the bullet on that one.:)

The concord I am sure can come with the 3.5 optional.

Got the concord new in 1997 as a 1998 model. It was the first year after they changed to the new teardrop style. There were the 4 cyl 2.2L ? and the 6 cyl. 2.7L. No 3.5 or 3.9s. But it will still run good. I have thought about trying to find a few mods for it but my Dak taked presidence.

"gentleman the 3.9 is a truck only engine"...... However my "other" vehicle is a 02 Concorde with the "optional" 3.5 liter twin overhead cam 24 valve engine, it is rated at 250 hp and turns 15.8 @95 mph in the q/mile. there is another version of the engine that is rated 255 hp but it is only available in the 02 300M, but the performance is somewhat dulled by the addition of several lbs. of "aerodynamic" plastic to the exterior that counteracts the hp. upgrade. A really quick way to tell if the concorde/Intrpid next to you has the 3.5 255 hp engine is to look at the exhaust outlets, if it is twin side by side pipes it has the "big engine" a single outlet indicates a lesser engine. The Sebring only weighs about 400 lbs less then an intrepid but gets the same gas milage, considering that 2 freinds could easily weigh that much and the 50 or so hp. gains on the bigger engine plus the fact that rides a lot nicer, it holds up better in deer/car crashes I will take a concorde/intrepid/300m anyday over a Sebring. Plus the back seat it larger for those "extraciricular activities". Daimler/Chrysler NEVER put a 4 cylinder engine in one of these boys, that is in the Sebring and the Dodge look-a-like only. Hey Joe the 300M is rated at a top speed of 138mph and the big engine concorde is 135, if you hit the canal at that speed you would be catfish bait, I'd be scared a bit too. My name speakes of my knowledge of these fine cars.

Yeah, I think there were 2 engines avaliable in 98' when we got ours. we got the larger of the 2 but its the so called "lesser" engine. The 2.7 L will still get up there goo though. I can get like 5K out it easy and up to 6.5K if I push it. I really gets up and runs up in the RPMs. I do wish we would have waited and bought the larger 3.2L or what ever it is. I also would have went with the 300M. Cost more but looks really nice. And they are very roomy inside. The Cab forward design is great. Have a nice one.

Joe,

I bet that R/T'd Concorde you saw was the Dodge Motorsports edition Intrepid. Did it have black wheels? The intrepid uses the same chassis and engines as the Concorde.

Will, I am driving the same car right now. My daks tranny blew and it the concorde for a week. The 2.7 does have good power. I drove acroos FLA (Ft. myers to Gainesville) going 85 all the way. Just cruised like a cloud.
I have had mine up to 115mph and it had a ways to go before it toped out. Like you I got nervous. On a 2 ln road at night next to a canal. But they will run.

I agree. 14s is a bit optimistic. This car is not set to run drags. It has alot of top speed. But as far as a drag, probably nit that awsome. It is a nice car tho. And it fun to drive.

Have heard conflicting numbers as to the 2.7L top speed cutout... Have had mine to 118MPH (Canadian model)... Ran out out straightaway... Find the handing at this speed incredibly good for a car this size.

Has anyone else gotten a little ticked off with the lack of aftermarket support for the 3.2L and 2.7L motors (Mopar or otherwise...) There seems to be a factory/aftermarket upgrade CPU, turbo, etc. for every piece but these motors. I had expected when Dodge entered the Intrepid into NASCAR, they would trickle down goodies to entice roddder-minded fans as they have with EVERY car "up until now". Heck, even the PT Cruiser, with it's aniemic 2.4L gets support.
Anyway, I know quite a few LH-bodied car owners that would immediately scoop up any scarce performance piece for these motors should it be known.

P.S. If anyone knows of any interesting mods, parts or kits, please let me know... Thanks!

William you fine mis-informed young fella, There is no way a STOCK 2.7 puttin out a measly 200 hp is gonna turn 14's not when the stock 3.5 with 255 hp is turning in 15.6 in the same chassis. My oldest son has a 2.7 in his intrepid and I have a 3.5 in my 300M we ran them off a while back. It was no contest. The 300M was, shall I say, "KING OF THE ROAD". Both are 2002 models.

I will DEFINATELY have to agree that the 2.7L cannot hit 14s (as much as I like the motor). MAYBE 16s. If your friend HAS run 14s he full of s@#$! and HAS to be running nitrous or something!
Just for example, a 375HP 440 crossed the quarter in the 14s in a B-body car in '71... The Concorde is approx the same weight. With 200HP, how is it to post the same results?

I have a 2000 Concorde with a 3.2L and it is very fast to be as big as it is. I had it doing 118 with 3 or my friends while I was following a Mustang GT. It is decent off the line and I am sure that given the right circumstances it could run low 16s easy.

Slopehead.

What does the 300M do in the quarter? I bought one new in 2000. My wife mainly drives it and gets on my arse if I play with the shifting to get the rpms up. Sure beats the hell out of my sad 3.9 for speed and handling, but hey its a truck. I have seen one in town with dual mufflers out back (no idea about underneath) not sure if it is/was an option, but I thought mine was loaded when I bought it.

William,
Besides retaking elementary school English maybe YOU should also do some follow-ups on the Concorde. Here's the info I just pulled right off their Web site. I'm pretty sure the manufacturer doesn't usually get the info about their own cars wrong.

"The Concorde engines are as much as 25 percent more powerful than their design predecessors, yet they improved overall efficiency by nearly 10 percent, cut some emissions by a full 30 percent and increase sound-silencing torsional stiffness by about -25 percent.

The 3.5-liter High-Output V6 on Concorde Limited delivers 250 horsepower @ 6,400 rpm and 250 pound-feet of torque @ 3,900 rpm. LXi's 232-horsepower 3.5-liter 24 valve V6 is equipped with a three-plenum intake manifold for optimum midrange and wide-open throttle power. LX's 2.7-liter 24-valve V6 sports smooth-running dual overhead camshafts and delivers 200 horsepower, making it one of today's most efficiently potent engines."
