Guy's: I need to rent a trailer and it seems the only size that will accomodate what I need to move is a 6X12' trailer thats 1920 lbs empty. I have a 2002 club cab 4X4 with the V6. The truck has a tranny cooler and class IV hitch but I'm wondering if the V6 can handle that size trailer. Looking for comments/recommendations from those that have trailered with the V6. I do have quite a ways to drive. Rougly 550 miles. Thx>>AJ

Don't see why not. I towed my Dodge Daytona home with my Dakota V-6 - 2-wheel dolly and the car weighed a total of 3500 lbs. It pulled strongly, no issues starting from a stop or keeping up with traffic. My brother used to tow his 22' sailboat with the truck when he owned it - 5,000 lbs.

Make sure you turn off the overdrive when towing.

Thx Bob. Any issue if I pop it in OD on straight and level highway? 500+ miles is a long way to go without OD.

I would not recommend using OD, especially if that trans cooler is the stock piece made into the radiator.

I'd still skip the O/D. I did use it on the level and downhill when towing the car, but now I get a faint humming, oscillating sound sometimes under load when in O/D and the lockup engages. Probably stressed the lockup clutch, which had over 180K miles on it at the time. Still shifts OK, but I might have taken some life off it.

I got 20 mpg empty on the highway, 18 with the empty dolly, and 14 while towing the car, with O/D on about 1/2 the time. Engine revs were about 2800 RPM, not too bad.
