I rebuilt my 97 3.9 & put an oversized cam into it im havin a
ping issue caused by the computer controlled timing I've
been lookin into super chips can I control the timing
advance by the programs in the chip

As I see it, you have two choices. Run 93 octane or find a company that will reprogram your PCM.

A tuner like Superchips will make the problem worse. It will add even more timing. If you're pinging that bad you need to pull timing not add it.

I forgot to add. A lower temp thermo stat, like 160deg and colder spark plugs will help. The colder t-stat will trip the CEL though.
