Ok i got my 98 3.9 cc up to 100, but it stopped there, this is my speed limiter right? or is it just so weak that i cant get it past 100 stock? and would a jet chip or some other brand turn this speed limiter off?

If it felt like someone shut the key off at a 100 it is the speed limiter. If it just quit climbing then you just don't have enouph power to overcome the wind resistance. Wind resistance is squared every time the speed is doubled.

what does your speedometer go to? i have a 00 and
mine goes to 120. she shuts off at 115. if i jsut
feels like you took your foot off the pedal then
yeah its your speed limiter. you can get that
taken off by using a different chip

Funny... My truck pulled 4800 rpm in OD... and it was pegged at 120... I do it so often the needle is dented.
:P
Mopar PCM works great. 136.9 on GPS... that was 4500 rpm given the 4800 rpm run... that's ~146 mph... Takes a while to get there... Not recommended, and definately not recommended with stock suspension!!! Instant death. Tire failure-- instant death... Mom & Dad find out... Instant Death! :P
Went there once.. won't go that far into it again (took two lanes just to be somewhat safe-- any wind gust would have put me in the dirt). What's that song... "The lines on the road looked like dots." They weren't kidding.

Ive been up to 115 down a lil hill It really starts to slow down around 105 I noticed that when I first got the Truck I could pop it up 2 110 STOCK w/ 215/75/15 Now I have Jet chip K&N and Flows and 255/55/17s and its not as easy but I do take off a lot faster. and it pics up faster on the highway.

it gets to 115 if i am WOT
the whole time. If crusin
at 80mph and then punch it
then it cuts off at 100.

aight im not sure if it just stopped at 100, but it wouldnt budge over it and i was trying for about 15 seconds after it got there. I guess it might of been the wind, i dont recall the weather, but that would blow if mines stopped at 100 and my speedo goes up to 120, and whats the speed rating for our stock tires?

why do the same trucks have different top speeds? mine will goto the 120 mark not sure if it goes over or not but it just will stay there.....it slows down alot after 105-110 but since i added the V8 TB it is alot better up there.
and how would i be able to tell if it goes over 120 or not? it may go over but once when im going that fast it seems like very little dip in the road is a pot hole...couldnt imagine what 146 in a dak would be like rtdkota

I have a 1999 3.9 and I noticed after making upgrades to the engine (eletric fan, 1.7 roller rockers, headers/catback, msd6 ing., air intake, jet stageII chip, 180 therm) when I hit 115 the governor shuts the engine down and will not make power untill it goes below 100mph. I was wondering if anyone can reprogram my computer and bypass the governor, like maybe KENN BELL. The jet chip does not effect the governor. One of these days I'm going to see if KENN BELL reprograms 3.9 computers and if they disarm the governor.

i hit 115 in 4th gear at a lil over 4700 rpms.
then she kicks off. i still have 5th gear to go
and about 500rpm to go. so there a lil more engine
under our hoods. our trucks are capable of 150.
but you'd almost have to redline for that. however
yes stock tires ar rated for 100. which strikes me
as funny. heres another question for you: your
already doin 115 why put a governer on that high i
mean comeon whats a extra few mph. if they want to
regualte speed why don't they put it at like
80mph. jsut kinda seems pointless when your
already doin 115

together you can't tell its a broken line. but

Sorry Guys But I dont thinks Our ol Daks will hit 150 mph 385hp lighting 140mph Gov.
01 SS 330hp camaro 160mph Us 175hp 115-120 mph
Thats about it for this ol dak. WE do drive Trucks and I do like mine to be as fast as possible but it is Still a truck no matter what and as for the tires You can go as fast as you want on them just dont sling them through corners at that speed (yeah right)

My 2000 Dakota 4.7 V-8 Mag with OD auto behind it shuts down at 95 MPH but it's only revin to 3500 rpm. Where can I get a "chip" that will let me get up to 115+ or is there some form of adjustment to the speed limiter on the existing board that will allow just a bit better top end ?

'92 rc 3.9 auto, had it 105, but i think i could get her up to 115 if i was feelin a little crazy. I'm not really into top speed myself, because it is too dangerous for my stock suspension and tires. Low end is where it's at!

The way my truck is set up, it (and I ) could easily handle another 20 MPH at times. 95 just ain't getting it.
Where can we get a "chip", board or whatever it takes to get the extra top end. Not looking for 150 but 115 as others are getting would be enough to suit me.

I got a little crazy with an f150 one night right after getting the truck tried to pass him on the interstate and he floored it i when i finally got around him I looked down at the speedo and was doing 105
take into account i am useing big o 31x10.5 which is about a 10% under on the speedo I figure i was doing about 120-25
i didn't realize i could move that well
this was before i moved the AIT and K'n filter charger

Hay sorry dakota lovers. chevys will beat you. any way mine shuts off at 100 too. withe 4.3 V6 vortec with every mod i could put on the thing. i know its pumping out at least 225hp and could top out at at least 130mph. i know theres a chip out there for that GOVERNER. i just dont know what it is called. if you know any thing please email. me. on where to find it.

from what i have heard, chebbies are limited to 95... and dakotas are limited to 110... and i have proved that many o times on the highway
but here is the secret
all us dakota lovers have to do is turn our key to the start position and it turns off the speed limiter... doh! sux to be you
