My mechanic put a frame mount fuel pump on my 2004 dakota (3.9 liter) since my pump went out just after I filled it up. (At the gas station, it wouldn't start: I swore it was bad gas, but it was the pump). So, here is the problem...he installed the pump, ran a hoe to a tee, hose from tee to stainless braided hose going to engine, and a hose from the tee to a snap on regulator, then return to the tank. He says the regulator needs to be at 80 psi.
Fuel lines are splitting. I will replace the hose before I trash the whole thing and do it right with an intank pump, but, is this set up okay if I get some SAE30R9 hi pressure hose? Is 80 psi too high? Should I fire my mechanic of 22 years?
I went to advance, bought the only hose they sell, replaced hoses & they split after 2 weeks.

80 PSI is high. You don't need more than about 55 PSI for it to run properly. Your best bet would have been to do the job right the first time.
