Guy's: I need to change the tensioner on my 02 Dak 3.9L. I looked at it thinking there should be a bolt head in the center to loosen the tensioner. I dont see a bolt. Is there a cap in the center that pry's off to access the bolt? Want to know before I tear into this. Thx>>AJ

ET: Would you happen to know what size? Doesnt look like a lot a room to access so a thin walled socket from the back is probably the best choice. Thx>>AJ

I changed mine last Fall. I took the entire mounting bracket off, 3 bolts....makes the job a lot easier.

Don: I looked at it today while I changed my plugs. Wow what a PITA. The coil is right in the way of accessing the nut from behind. What is the best way to do this? Removing the coil looks like a pain. Any better way? >>AJ

AJ, If its just the pulley on the tensioner that is bad or making noise, you can get just that pulley and change it out. I did that about a year ago on mine. The tensioner was working fine and not worn but the bearing in the pulley was starting to growl and wobble.

Just food for thought.

Thx Daddio. I'm really looking to replace the whole assembly as prevetive maintenance. I have 95K on the odo and I dont want this thing to fail on the road. I had a tensioner fail on my wife's old Blazer and luckily I saw it before she got stuck on the road. Since this is a PITA to replace I might just let it go a while longer.>>AJ
