I have a 1993 Dodge Dakota v6 3.9L 2wd with 156,000 miles.

When should the timing chain be replaced? I've looked and I can't find it and I don't have the owners manual.
And I've heard rummors that replacing it actually increases mpg. Not by a lot but a good amount. Is this true or just a rumor?
And lastly, while changing the chain, should anything else be replace while doing the chain. I know the water pump is popular, but is there anything else that should be replace?

Thanks,

Steven

If yours is original, I'd change it. By 100k miles the original design has worn and stretched enough to affect performance in most of these. The replacement one is a redesign to improve the oil feed. A new one will restore proper valve timing and you might not notice any change in gas mileage, very slight performance improvement.

When I had mine done, I also had the water pump and bypass hose replaced, while it was apart. And my harmonic dampener had a bad wobble (1/4"), so they replaced that, also.

Thanks, I'll get to it asap. But I was looking around online and I can't find a harmonic dampener. Are you sure that's the right part?
