Hi all,
I have a 97 2wd automatic dakota with a v6.I have a
squeaking sound what sounded like it was coming from the
belt, so I changed the belt, and idler pulley still doesn't help.
Doesn't matter if I turn the ac on/off, only thing is since it's
been cold here last few days 30-40f it hasn't been that bad?
Is there any way to check bearings or pulleys without
replacing them? Thanks for any advice

I have 94 sprt 2wd swb 5spd and a 94 2wd lwb auto. Both done it and I was told to pour dish washing liquid on the spring of the tensioner/ idler pulley ,anyways it worked and they haven't made a sound since .

Check pulley alignment. Also, did you change just the tensioner w/pulley or did you change the idler pulley also? The metal idler pulley almsot dead center above the waterpump.

To check either remove the belt and give both the tensioner pulley and the idler a spin. If either feels rough it's probably time to replace. you can also check for wobble in them. Just grab one with the belt removed and try to move it side to side.

Only thing left to check it the pulley alignment. Unless one of those pieces you changed is defective.
