My 2001 3.9L (63k miles) Dakota Quad Cab is having some issues. I'm not very mechanically inclined, so please bare with me:

1. The engine will sometimes lope anywhere from 500-1500rpm. This doesn't always happen. It's completely random. It can happen when the AC/heat is on or off. When the engine is cold or warm. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all, but the idle is usually a little rough, if nothing else.

2. I sometimes have trouble getting it to start. This can happen when the engine is cold or warm. I'll hear it start then immediately stop. After that I can hear the starter motor going but it won't start the engine unless I push the gas down a little. I have to hold the gas down for a few minutes and then VERY slowly let my foot off the pedal to get it to idle on it's own. If I let my foot off the gas too soon or too fast it will die.

I took it to the shop and of course the engine didn't lope and they got it to start fine whenever they tried. It didn't give them any error codes either.

Vacuum hoses, air filter, spark plugs, wires and PCV valve were recently changed. (after these problems surfaced)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
