I rebuilt the 3.9 and put the engine back in. but it won't
start. I have 100 lbs compression so valve timing must be
correct. It sounds like she wants to start but just won't. I'm
not a mechanic and I did this because I wanted to do it
once. Any advice plz help there are no codes either

What year? Check for fuel and ignition if you're getting those check the distributor and make sure you have it in the correct position. #1 cylinder on TDC of Compression stroke and the rotor pointing at the #1 terminal on the distributor cap.

Oh, before you tackle such a big job you may want to purchase a service manual for your truck from a local parts house. 20 bucks and well worth it.

Ok here's the kicker im getting fuel and ignition. It sounds
like it wants to start, there is combustion in the cylinders.
But I have to advance the distributer all the way to get it to
that point. This is why I'm confused. Hope this makes sense.
On to of that one cylindersounds like theirs no magic
happening.

Again, What year is your truck? Your problem is turning the distributor. That does not control timing. The PCM controls timing. The distributor is for injector sync.

The distributor gear might be out of alignment with the cam
timing how do I adjust that cuz its not on the distributor?
That might explain my timing trouble

Spark is intermittent. One plug looks like it hasn't burned
anything. New msd coil how do you check to see if its good
also how do you check wiring going to coil. Book is useless
for this.

Hmmm...primary should be less than 1.2 ohms, secondary should be less than 13,000 ohms. Check again.

Well its an msd blaster coil. Not sure what specs but as long
as it reads something good I know its doing its job. I get the
distributor tomorrow and I'm checking for spark again. If no
spark, going to chase down the splice. Any suggestions are
welcome. Thanks everyone for all the help you've given me

Are you getting intermittent spark or none? Did you check the Crank Position sensor? It tells the coil when to fire and itf it's not working properly the coil won't get the signal to fire.

I got spark sounds like it wants to start but it won't. Triple
checked cylinder 1 alignment I wish I could put a sound on
hereof what it sounds like. No popping just combustion. I've
replaced the crank pos senser and the distributor pick up
sensor, new coil, plugs, distributor, cap. Gonna put new gas
next. Theirs combustion just not turning on it own.

Casey, it sounds like you may have either a bad distributor or, its possible you may have put the dist. drive gear in incorrectly. With the older Dakotas that wasn't a problem, just find number one and go from there, but with the multi port fuel injection if the drive gear is off just one tooth your fuel injection timing will be off as well. my guess is since you are going to replace the dist. anyway, try that and if that doesn't work, you may have to pull the intake and and check that the drive gear for the dist. is in correctly. You will need to have the #1 piston on top dead center as if were ready to fire. there is a proper possition for the drive gear so it could be that. Have you tried putting gas down the throttle body? Just a suggestion.
Good Luck
