Subject: Overheating, the overcooling
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 1993 Dakota v6 with over 150,000.

My truck overheats when i've been driving it. It overheat for a long time and then the guage will show that it's overcooling. And if i'm at a stop sign and it's overheating, and turn the truck off for a few seconds, it will start overcooing when i turn it back on. And for both situations, when it starts overcooling, it wont overheat anymore.

In the past few years i've replaced, the radiator, water pump, fan clutch, t-stat, heater core, heater by pass hose, and a few hose, the belt and belt tensioner. It doesn't leak and I've checked and the radiator is full.

Any suggestions?? Could it be a bad t-stat, air in the system, a bad dash temp sensor or something else.

Thanks

When you say over heating is it just showing high on
the gauge or can you smell it or see steam?

It just show's it on the guage. My truck doesn't have the temp numbers on it so i can't say what it's reading exactly, but it's defenatly overheating, then overcooling, on the guage. I don't see any steam or other indicators but I just don't want a major problem to happen.

Also I forgot to mention that the guage will sometimes show that it's overcooling the whole time, and never overheat

Start by replacing the coolant temp sensor. It's
located in the intake right near the thermostat
housing.

I finally got to replacing the temp sending unit and it still does the exact same thing. Sorry it took so long to replace it, I've been busy. Any other suggestions because I'm OCD and it's driving me crazy

I replaced it already and it's still doing the exact same thing. Has anyone else had this problem and/or a solution?

Thanks
