Bought 2002 dodge dakota v6 3 mos ago. Told new co sensors were just put in. Month after buying it started sputtering and code came up co sensor was slow...replaced ..no change. Replaced all wires , plugs, cap and coil...no difference. Could smell something smoking as she was idling, looked underneith and resonators (?) were blood red. WHAT IS WRONG?

Catalytic converters have failed. Replace them, clear codes and see if the oxygen sensor (it's not a CO sensor) fault codes return.

Thanks for the info. Sorry about the (CO). Isn't it odd that both cats would go at the same time and what would cause that problem in the first place. Don't want to go through that expense (if something is causing the problem). Talked to 2 Chrysler dealers that can't find or even know what type of system the truck has on it. Can the cats be bought separate or does everything from manifold out have to be replaced?

Not sure about that vintage. I have a 92, which has a single large cat downstream of the Y-pipe, and it's replaceable aftermarket.

Check with your local exhaust/muffler shop .
They should be able to put on 'aftermarket'
equivalents..= about half or less than the price
of Chrysler originals..
