98 Dodge Dakota V6 Automatic

Problem:
Traveling on freeway at about 2000 RPM and get very quick and slight down shifting. At the same time the RPM rises to about 2200 RPM very quickly and then proceeds to run normal again. Typically occurrs more on level or when traveling uphill. It;s almots as ig the trcuk enated to downshift but then decides not to. I am inclined to think speed sensor? or some other sensor?

Changed oil in transmission but problem persited.
Tuned up.

No error codes recorded.

This is normal operation. It's simply the lockup torque converter disengaging and engaging. It will make a difference of about 200 RPM. Nothing to fix.

At 2000 rpm this should not happen on the level .
Probable pressure sensor on Trans .

Thanks guys.

Actually it is a problem since it does not feel or sound normal and was fine up until a month ago.

I used the same ATF4+ (MOPAR recommended) trans fluid which I have always used.

The pressure sensor on the tranny as the potential cause sounds interesting.... where is it located?

Thanks.

Deon

I also like flying down the road at 90 MPH in 2nd gear. Try that! It also blows all the trash right out the seal gasket.

Thanks J and J Auto. I will get prices for these. If I am not mistaken, both these sensors are mounted above the transmission pan correct? I seen two sensors with wires going in to them and I assume these are both the seonsor and solenoid.

Thanks.

Deon
