It sounds to me that maybe you need to check the connection just a few inches down from the "Power box" the fuse box under the hood, follow the wires down about 4-6 inches and untape the wires, there is a splice where I think 3 or 4 wires come together and it can cause all kinds of problems, I can't remember just what they call it on here, but there are a lo of posts about it on here. I would try that before I replace the computer. The way I understand it, it needs to be cleaned and reconnected, then retaped.
Good Luck

yes the splice is good. I have had the truck ten yrs and taken well care of it as well as the previous owner. it shows in the wiring where the splice is, clean as a whislte and tight. I gave the splice some tugs and wiggled all the wiring in that area on back to the firewall, even disconected the block from the fire wall to check corrosion. it all looks good. I even wiggled every damn wire under the hood while the engine was running. today the truck ran without a hint of a miss. check my earlier posts and you will see I have done just about it all. CONFESSION TIME, I am a retired 30 yr tech. and electrical is one of my strongest in the feild. I WILL NOT GIVE UP. someone here in town is parting out a 92 3.9 and tomorrow I am buying the throttle body with the Map, ais and t/p sensors for 20 bucks. can't go wrong, but that is all he has left other than an alt. BTW, with engine running my alt. output is 14.2 volts and a new batt. so we are good there. I'll keep ya posted becuase I WILL NOT GIVE UP. thanx everyone for any input so far

I didn't see your other post, but I assume you checked the fault codes? What are the symptoms again?

Here are the symptoms and my fixes. No codes, ever, no warning lights, only if I disconnect an injecter, then the check eng. lite comes on. Symptoms: no. 5 cyl. just dies when ever it feels like it. Ive done all the basics, comp. 120 dry, 150,000 miles on er'. This weekend I baought a throttle body off a motor with 60,000 miles. I changed the map sensor, thottle pos sensor, and ais motor. drove for about two blocks and # 5 died again. went three miles it came back on hitting on all six and it is still that way. always #5 and only #%. When dead, I took a new spark plug and and put it on #5 plug wire, started it up and of couse a misfore, but the plug had a good spark. swapped #6 injecter with #5. no diff. like I said #5 just drops, nothing, and only #5. When all six are firing, the truck runs like a dream.

Have you replaced the dist cap, wires and ignition rotor in the last 50K miles? If not, you need to.

Is compression the same as other cylinders?

Have you checked carefully to see if the spark plug heat shield is shorting out the spark? Did you try removing the heat shield?

Hi Bob. comp. test showed 120 on that cyl. #1 was the lowest at 100. At night I looked for stray spark, none.
