My 99 3.9 with 73000 miles has picked up the habit of reving up while it is idiling and I wondered what it could be. Can yall help me figure it out?

hay my brothers got a 99 dakota and it would rev up and idle back down and then just die we changed plugs plug wires and coils and o2 sencers still did and it would still do it even while he was driveing to so we called around and ask some ppl the said try ur crank sencer that was the prob with his so ya might want to try that first i think its around 100 $
