On an '01 the key trick should work. Turn the key as follows: on/off/on/off/on(on not all the way to start) within about 15 seconds. The codes, if any, should display in the odometer as Pxxxx. If there are no codes or after displaying the stored codes, it will display Pdone.
This works on most years and I know for sure it does not work on '99 model year.
