I just bought a 94 Dakota V6 4x4 dirt cheap. Catch is the tranny doesn't have second gear. As in it will redline in first without ever shifting, but if I get it going fast enough I can let off the gas and it will go to third. The guy who had it before me lived with this problem for months. I bought the truck with the intention of just replacing it with a junkyard tranny but I know that is risky as well. This isn't something that can be caused by bad fluids or a computer or anything? I just want to know before I spend the effort of swapping out the tranny. Also, anybody ever do that job in their driveway? How bad is it? My Hanes book made it seem reasonable.
