Do I need a new tranny or something else?
Hard to shift from 1st to 2nd. Once in 2nd, I have to let off the gas, go to N and back to D and everything is back to normal. This has went on for about a week. Now once it goes into 3rd, it will only stay for a couple seconds and then it drops all the way back to 1st.....Pretty much only have 1-2 gears right now.
Should I attempt a drain and filter change or am I just wasting my money?

I just got my 97 V6 Dak today. I am having troubles shifting too. Feels like a huge flat spot from about 15-20MPH to 35-40MPH. Seemed like it was tune up related. While I was changing out my plug wires, I noticed that the kick down linkage was broken. So I tried driving it shifting manually, and the flat spot disappeared! It pulled hard! So I would check out the shift linkage at the throttle body. Not saying that this is the fix to your problem, but you should check it out.
