Message:
I have a 1993 doge dakota, v6, auto, rwd, 151,000 miles

My problem is that the engine temp guage is all over the place. In the morning i'll see the temp guage much warmer than what it should be and then when i drive home it wont even get up to operating temp. This is just an example. But my point is that it is NEVER the same temp when im driving at different times during the day. It's either to hot or to cold and never where it's suppose to be.

It has a new radiators (2 years ago), water pump (1 year ago), and the following was this past winter: belt, tensioner, t-stat, fan clutch, heater core.

It was doing this before i replaced the t-stat, because i thought that would fix it, so i know it's not because the t-stat is differnt temp setting. And everything is on the way it's suppose to be.

Please help, Steven

Change the temp sensor next to the t-stat, very cheap and problem will be solved. 20min to change.

DO NOT use teflon tape.

IIRC the sender needs to ground to the engine.

They don't need any sealer of any type.

I forgot to mention that i replace both temp sensors (dash and computer) 1.5 years ago. And my truck doesn't leak any antifreeze and i have bleed the cooling system. Is it still possible that the sending unit is just going bad?? Or is it something else?

It's possible. LOL

Some of the aftermarket senders are junk. I'd try replacing the gauge sender and see what happens.

Alright I'll give that a try. And it's true about the aftermarket sending units because i replaced my fuel sending unit and the guage works but it's no where near accurate
