 Subject: rpm question

i have a 97 dakota auto 3.9 2wd and when im driving really slow like through town the truck will jump rpms continually until it shifts into another gear or i give it a little more gas it only does still driving slow like in town or in a parking lot what could this be? thanks

I would suggest you run the codes and see if anything comes out of that. Then go from there.
It seems there are a lot of things that can cause these trucks to run kind of strange, well a lot of the newer stuff is like that. Maybe, a Map sensor, or throttle position, or some other sensor. Rather than guessing, run the codes that will help some. All you have to do is turn the key on, and off (do not hit the starter) do that 3 times and leave the key in the "run" position and either the "Check Eng." light will flash out the code(s) or the odometer will flash out the codes.

Except that the codes need to be read on a scanner for 97 .
Autozone , or similar will usually read them for free for you.
