Last year I asked about this annoying whistle from under the hood,1) has anyone actually fixed this issue? and next is it only on trucks with the auto trans? I have found that it occurs at all speed ranges, and I can get rid of it quickly by cutting out the O/D when at speed. I have also noted that it didn't happen when it's cold and rainy out. I will be looking into this further with a local trans shop and will report back to those afflicted.

Thanks

Jerry

I agree, I think you have a vacuum leak. I would start by checking the vacuum lines that come off the intake manifold and then the power brake booster. It could be any number of vacuum lines with small cracks that can cause it, the fact you said it goes away if you take it out of OD at speed, cause you would have less vacuum at a higher speed under accelaration. However, if you let off the gas it should come back even louder. (max vacuum when you let off the gas)
Good Luck

Did you get this at cold temps only though? Lots of us get this on our Dakota's when it's below zero degrees and at mostly 100km/h or higher so it seems.
Someone posted a result when using a plain ole standard air filter in winter.

Want to resurrect this post. Just started getting a whistle in my 02 V6. Never heard it before until now. Truck has 75K miles on it. I seem to hear come and go when driving on the highway. Engine warming to FOT seems to have no effect on it. Has anyone found out the source? AJ
