Subject: Low coolant, no visable leak.

Let me set this up: in '05 my heater core leaked, so I
used Bars Leak and everything was great. Last fall I had
a salvaged motor with about 90,000 or so miles on it put
in and the did a back flush. A few months later. I got
into some trouble and it sat for 90 days, but I started it
and let it run for a bit with no problems. In the pring I
started smelling coolant and thought the flush made
the core leak again. A few months ago I decided to re-
add the Bars Leak and found that my rad drain plug was
bad, but not the leak. When I pulled the plug out ALL
of my coolant came out. I filled it up as best as I could
and found that I now no longer had any heat at all. I
replaced the thermo with a 192 and nothing. The leak
turned out to be the by-pass hose and was fixed, but I
have had to add coolant since the day the drain plug
was pulled. Rad cap is new, and the heater core was
replaced a month ago with new heater hoses. I did not
bleed the system and they did not do a back flush when
replacing the core. Since the plug was pulled I can drive
hours and still stop and take the rad cap off with no
exploding fluid, but the vehicl DOES NOT run hot or
overheat at all. Then 2 Sundays ago I went to town to
get some coolant and there was a small puddle and it
was my overflow. I had actually overfilled it, so I'm
pretty sute that's why it was coming out. I topped it off
and whn I got home it was shooting out again and when
I popped the cap it shot out like crazy. I syphoned
everything out of the overflow and re-filled with
coolant to the proper level. I have since still had to put
coolant in and there is no visable leak, smell or engine
problems. Checked oil and nothing. Anyone have a
freakin' clue what is up?

Did you check out the motor before instaling it. I had a problem like yours it was the antifreeze leaking out through the intake gasket into the gas mixture and was burning it out the tail pipe. Changed the gasket and it all went away. Hope this helps. JD>

I had a shop put it ion, so no idea what all the looked at. Which gasket did you replace, the belly pan or the ones to the heads? How'd you find the leak?

I did change the gasket for the intake manifold, as the gasket got misalinged when i droped in the manifold. this time I used some silicone gasket holder to hold in place (let it dry overnight. I also changed the section of the front as you call the belly pan again with a lot of silicone around the edges & also put a adapter on the crank pulley to stop leakage at that point. Check the tailpipe with a tissue during cold running for any kind of fluid other than water, and also antifrezze will affect your 02 front sensor to giving wrong readings to your PCM. Hope this helps. JD>
