I need help with a strange problem. The lifters on the passenger side of 92 V6 have all collapsed.

Here is the history: 92 ext cab, 3.9L, AX15,4x4, 300 miles on a total drive-train overhaul. Stock new heads, new Sealed Power stock lifters and cam, New Mopar push rods, Harland Sharps 1.7 lifters. After 180miles on fresh overahaul, I had to replace the head gaskets because I used Peratex copper spray head gasket sealer on Felpro permatorque gaskets. It acted like Pam cooking spray. No warning from Felpro not to do that. I had antifreeze leaking at all four corners of the passenger side head. I didn't replace the oil and filter at that time because I could find any evidence of water in the oil.
After going through that problem, I put another 150 miles the truck without any problem. I drove it to work once(50 highway miles each way). I parked it in an insulated garage that night. It didn't have any problems, leaks, or any other sign of something wrong. When I started it the next morning, it was clattering badly. It was running rough, but I let it run for 30 seconds or so hoping it would clear up. It didn't. I pulled the passenger side valve cover off, and it has water and the brown cottage cheese oil residue in it. All of the lifters on the passenger side are completely collapsed. I have tried restarting it after using the block heater to attempt thin out the oil. Nothing has worked. The oil pressure is mid to upper range on the gauge. The driver side lifters are working perfectly. I drained the oil and caught the first little bit--no water present. In fact, there wasn't any water anywhere except in the passenger side valve cover. I started to pull the lifters to try to clean them; assuming I had water get in them and mix with the oil to make goo. The two professional mechanics I have worked with have no idea, especially being just the passenger side failing.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

Behaley, it sounds to me like the oil passage on the passenger side of the block is plugged. I don't know if the engine coolant getting into the engine's oil would have that effect or not, I have seen some where there was a lot of anti-freeze in the oil and it ran ok, but it can ruin the bearings. When you overhauled the engine did you remove the block from the truck? If not maybe its has some dirt in the passage that feeds the passenger side lifters. If that is the case, you would need to remove the block, tear it down and clean it. IF you did remove the entire engine from the truck then I would think that something is blocking the oil passage, I could be wrong, just my ideas.
Good Luck

I did remove the block from the truck. I did a complete engine overhaul. The block was dipped, magnafluxed, and fully inspected before reassembly. The oil galley plugs were all replaced (4 total)and resealed. New bearings throughout. Pistons and connecting rod were in perfect condition. Installed new rings and most of the valve train. All but two of exhaust valves were reusable. New heads due to cracks caused by Chrysler incompetence in the first Magnum heads (grind valve seats after heat treatment= soft valve seats) New double roller timing chain and tensioner. I read in some of the other posts that there is a direction the lifters are supposed to go in, but the Haynes book didn't say anything about it. I did find reference to in the Chrysler service manual, but I don't remember that detail during the build. Assuming I mistakenly put the lifters and/or the yokes in upside down, what would happen? I don't think the yokes had arrows on them as suggested in the book. Also 10w-30 conventional oil w/Lucas break-in additive, and basic FRAM oil filter.

Mine is an 88 and I remeber when I rebuilt mine it did have the arrows on the Yokes, but they look as though they will work either way. The thing is, the engine ran fine for 300 miles, then again for another 150. I wouldn't think you could have put the lifters in incorrectly.
Mine is a little different than yours, so may be thats the problem, mine could only go in one way (lifters) I'm sorry, I wish I could be of more help, but without seeing your truck, or having a look at it, I'm not sure what the problem is.
Good Luck
