Subject: rattleing sound at bogging
IP: Logged

Message:
I just bought a 99 dakota sport auto 3.9 with 31x10.50s reg cab and when you start to go up a hill and the motor bogs slightly it makes a rattling sound kinda like a loose heat guard or thin metal material but i have found nothing loose yet and it possibly may be the valves clinging but not sure, any ideas?

Probably pinging. Could be the belly pan gasket going bad. Try some mid grade or premium fuel.

If it is pinging, it will be most noticeable when the engine is under a load.

It's pinging. Use a higher octane gas.

Use a synthetic 5W-30 or 10W-30 oil.

On which oil to use, that is totally a matter of personal preference. Follow the manual for recommended weights. Personally, my oil of choice is Valvoline dino. I used to use their 30w Super HPO for my climate(Deep South) in all of my vehicles. Now I use their 10w-30. Both of my vehicles are over 100k and I don't use their Hi-Mileage oil. I have been using Valvoline for over 25 yrs and have never had any complaints with it.

All I can tell you is research, research, research and make an imformed decision on which one YOU want to use.
