Haven't been here in ahwhile and not tooling around with my truck because my wedding plans taken over a bit, but finally have a little spare time on my hands to get dirty.Yesterday I did the IAT mod move it about 6" away from intake put a slit in the flex elbow going into throttle body and put sensor there, Iam wondering if theres also a benefit in running 3923's spark plugs since Iam dropping the IAT temp. I figure that got OEM Champions in there would be hotter and make it run lean, Iam already running lean with fuel pressure but within specs so a little confused where to go. I have an K&N and my TPS mod is good, thermostat no swapped out yet it runs around 183-186' already on my scanner. Hope Iam not to confusing what Iam asking

It wouldn't hurt to go one range colder on the plugs. Try the NGK FR5. I've had success and great service out of NGK's on 3 different vehicles over the years.

Heard alot about NGK's as well. and many comments its more a preference choice unless your Hot Rodding down a 1/4 mile strip. I wondering if my plugs will change in color after the IAT mod?. Since Iam faking it out to add more pulse to injectors and timing change ? So far notice throttle response is better. I got to get my scan tool back from my freind and see where temp for IAT and timing is hanging any particular readings I should be looking for ? I know theres another mod where you can dial your own temp with variable pot switch and thermistor, don't want go that extreme, always looking for ways to tinker with old faithful to keep er' running strong ...

Pete, FYI from my experience with the IAT mod(remember every truck is different) it wasn't worth it. My truck didn't like it.

Granted, my truck is an '00 QC 3.9, 5spd, 4x2, V8 TB, crank sensor mod and underdrive crank pulley. From what I understand the manual trucks PCM programming may have a little more ignition advance built in to them than the auto trans trucks. Maybe that's why.

Maybe, but most v-6's 3.9L have the same IAT,coolant sensor same MAP sensor same stock throttle body same IAC the only thing that difers is whether you have a federal emmision truck with 2- 02's or California emisson with 4-02's and may have differnt PCM program tables form auto to manual trans. So I guess whats the hype to mod these v-6's unless you like me and others here like to tinker around to get something more than its worth Agree with me??

Agreed, I did my minor mods to try to increase the efficiency of the truck. What little I have done has increased my mileage which is what I was looking for alonng with the pleasure of working on my vehicles.

Some have claimed a performance form the IAT mod but that was not my experience so I reversed that mod. Any others I've done were worth it.

so daddio, myself trying to improve fuel economy in these trucks isn't something that be achieve?? maybe a couple mpg's but mods here there and expect gains in mileage I just don't think so, you want better mileage should of never bought a dakota, want a hot rod should bought a challanger these trucks are not made to be hot rods or fuel savers, yes you make a hot motor and maybe a sleeper if you want catch someone by surprise but darn I thought these were working trucks and daily drivers ? enough of my babble and B.S... happy truckin to all

Pete, I think you missed my point. I modded my truck the way I did because I wanted to see IF I could improve it's mileage and I did! I didn't intend to make it track worhty. I have a project/ hotrod to tinker with. I just wanted see if I could improve from where the factory fell short and I did that. Hwy mileage went from 22 to 24 mpg.

You can increase mileage and performance. Ask Larry(he's around here somewhere) he's got a '95 4x4 modded to the hilt and says he pulls 24mpg or better.

daddio I catch your point myself I to modified my truck my ways as well, but I achieved only couple of times as I recall before modifying my truck when it was newer have gotten 22 mpg on a tank of gas not INSTANT MILEAGE what maybe people are posting ? maybe not ? I don't know, I don't want to piss anyone off here. I can't see though modifying a truck and getting these #'s if so why didn't the engineers use these ideas ?? you probaly like me couldn't answer

Yes, don't bother. If you want to do something with the IAT, move it out of the intake manifold, away from the heat.
