Subject: Oil Pump Change

My truck is parked most of the time, only driven about 4K/yr for the last 3-4yrs.

OK, I did a bad thing last winter and didn't check the antifreeze. So since mid January my truck has been down.

First I cranked it and busted the impeller off the shaft of the water pump. To compound the problem I HAD to drive the truck that day. Heat worked fine then went away.. yes no water circulation. End of February and I changed the water pump and drove the truck for the first time since that Jan. day. NO good.. water in the oil.

Fast forward to last month (told you I don't drive the truck that much!!). Drained and replaced the oil. Drove the truck to a shop. Water temp and oil pressure was OK for drive. Anyway, yup I hade a cracked head. R/R head and rebuild the other. Took a few weeks cause I was getting a break on the cost.

Anyway.. picked up the truck today. Machanic tells me the oil pressure is acting up. I started the truck and OP was good. Idled for a few minutes and it was acting normal. It always has dropped a little after running a bit.

But on the drive home after a few miles the gauge really drops. Then the light comes on. Then my new r/r heads start tapping.. not good.

So how hard is it to change the oil pump? This is a 3.9 vin X 4x4. Manual says remove crossmember and front drive axle. I'm not scared of the work just wonder if I will run into anything that needs special tools.

Also hoping that it is just the oil pump. Truck doesn't smoke (more than usual) and ran OK even with virtually no oil pressure.
