I was wondering what would be a good torque converter for a 42rh. I would like one that has a higher torque multiplication over stock and have a stall around 1600. Mine is going out and might as well put a good one in while its out.

Adam, is your truck 2wd or 4wd?
If it's 2wd, you should be able to use a T/C for a 4wd which has a slightly higher stall than the 2wd. around 1800 i think.

It will not be the torque converter that 'is going out' ..
However , if you want to switch it when the tranny is serviced , by all means..

daddio It is a 4x4 I just want a better one when I replace it I know aps will make a custom one, I just swapped in a 318 and should have replaced it than but funds would not allow. What would be a better stall the 1600 or 1800 I do a lot of towing and the 318 is far from stock. The torque converter is making noise and a good fried and a very good mechanic aslo said it is the torque converter since I am also a mechanic and trust his advice I am going with the torque converter.

If you've got an aftermarket cam and other mods i'd talk to the cam manufacturer or whoever you bought it from about what stall speed would be best for your application. like any other mod/mods, you want them to work together or you're just wasting your hard earned money.

A lot of factors come into play. Tire size, gear ratio, intended use for the truck, etc....

Hopefully you can get the stall speed you want with a lock up.
