Ok yall spare me any humiliation here, I'm just starting to learn engines. I know my audio like the back of my hand...but I know engines like the back of any of yall's hands..

Ok first off, I seen a couple references to "IAT" on here, what is the IAT?

And then the big one...what is the throttle body? Does the air intake hat bolt on top of the throttle body and the air passes thru it? That's what it kinda looks like to me anyway..

Thanks in advance for the patience and answers :D

I'm no engine master either but i'll try and help you out:

IAT=Intake Air Temperature, its a sensor mounted on the intake manifold tells the Computer what the temperature of the incoming air charge is. By relocating this sensor or using the www.speedtweaks.net IAT adguster you fool the computer into enriching the mixture and advancing the ignition slightly.

The Throttle Body is what i consider the fuel injection equivalent of a carbeurator (sp?) if you have the 3.9, 5.2, or 5.9 it's right where the carb would be on top of the engine has two butterfly valves that regulate incoming air. Replacing this with a better or modified one will give some more power

Hope i helped, email me for more info if you need it

Yeah ya did, does the intake hat attach to the TB? It looks like it's in the same location on the engine, and all the pics I see of the TB have no intake installed, so it seems only logical but I wanna make sure..

Yup, you are right. That black TB hat sits right on top of the throttle body. When you step on the gas peddle, it pulls a cable connected to a lever on your throttle body which opens up the two little "doors" to let in more air. Which is a very good thing for our trucks, they like more air. The hat is connected to an accordian tube, which connects to an air filter box. At the front of the box is a snorkel which brings in cold air from the front of the truck by the passenger side headlight.

But Wait!! There's more!!! When the little doors open on the throttlebody and more air is sucked in, the computer senses that air and adds more gas thru the fuel injectors right before the two mix and are drawn into the cylinders. The throttlebody is basically an air metering device......

So, you can see how enlarging the throttlebody bores would enhance performance. More air thru means more gas in and that means a bigger louder boom! in the cylinders and more horsepower out the crankshaft thru the tranny and back to the rear tires.....

More gas is only let in if you push on the gas pedal, which opens the throttle body valve to let more air in. Problem is, after doing the MOD, I tend to push on the pedal more... :0/

Although, when I got the truck I was lucky to get 18mpg, although it was pretty consistant around 17.5-18 mpg. Now, before the JET II, I'm pulling 21mpg pretty consistantly. Heck if I know what I did.

speedtweaks.net has a v6 to v8 throttle body conversion kit, supposedly is easy to install, etc. How well it works--don't ask me, I don't even own a dakota!

There are several TB upgrade options for the V6 - there are the ported Fastmans, the beautiful (and pricey) billet Flometrics, or the factory V8 TB.

Oh yes there is i have one of the prototype V6 Flowmwtrics TB's and let me tell you it is a piece of Billet Art. I was at the dealer recently and there were several tech's with Daks and Rams drooling over it. I do believe though if you use too big a TB too much air gets in too quick and it kills you bottom end. They also had never seen the IAT adjuster they hooked my truck up to the computer and tried the IAT adjuster and said it will take the "seen" temp. down to 25 deg. !!!

I'm thinking about pickin up the venom module for my v6 dakota. I have heard some mixed feelings on this chip and I was wondering if anyone had tried it on their automatic. It seems to me like it would be sweet ass but I'm sure. Any opinions will help.

Installing a v8 tb will make it use so slightly more gas, that it is almost un-noticable.

I installed my stock v8 TB on my truck in less then an hour. Very easy to do. Just make sure you reset the computer, and let the truck idle for a while before you go drive it.
