Subject: Problems with 92 3.9 starting when hot

Hello everyone...I recently installed a new dist cap, rotor, pickup coil and plugs/wires . I live in Oregon where the weather is typically cool ...although reaches the high 90s 100s I have never had a problem with my truck starting in the heat after running for an extended amount of time .(prior to the new parts) I have gone to vegas to work and the weather temps are aroun 90-100f ...however my truck doesn't want to start after it's run for awhile / shut off. I have to let it sit for lil bit before it will start.I didn't notice the problem enroute because everytime I pit stopped I spent enough time to rest the truck .The heat is definitly a factor as I had driven the truck about 400 miles before coming to vegas in 70-80f temps with no probs. At nights here in Vegas it starts everytime. I did have someone index the distributor (in oregon) but Im wondering if it isn't set right for this climate and extreme heat . I just had the exact same issues with my 76 ford truck and retarding the dist worked and now the truck will start . Im not sure exactly how to advance or retard the timing on this truck . Help would be greatly appreciated along with any suggestions to remedy my problem . Thanks everyone and happy fathers day !

I'm not 100% positive but if our trucks have a crankshaft position
sensor it could be that. Before I bought dodge I owned many
GM products and starting a GM warm was a common problem.
It was always the crank position sensor for me.

I had the all the sensors checked / ...there are no error codes or faulty sensors of any kind that I am aware of . I have replaced the TPS ,Oil pressure sensor , IAC , recent raiadtor , new thermostat , recent fuel pump / filter, EGR has been tested aswell. Some of these parts were replaced simply because of exterior ware. I also removed the cat and put a new muffler on it .

So...... I am struggling horribly with this truck. Now I can't get the truck to idle. It will idle sometimes but only after I hold the rpms at 1500 or better for a few secs ...then it drops down to 200 rpms / wants to die ..then idles normally. However I can only get it to do it once out of 30-40 tries . more recent parts include crank sensor / new battery . I have no clue at this point and really could use some help . The IAc was replaced 2k miles ago . I have checked the codes and come up with 12 -55 . any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you .

For one thing removing the cat was a bad idea.
The EGR will not function properly, if at all.

Have you check the under hood wire splice?

Change ignition coil, heat causes coil to F.U.

I would suspect the lack of the cat if I hadn't put 2k miles on it .As I understood ..there aren't any sensors past the cat ..so although there potentially isn't enough back pressure ...the truck should still run . That's how it was explained to me . The truck did run untill I hit the heat . I am really wondering if the indexing of distributor initally wasn't correct. I plan to do that shortly .

The wire splice...I am unclear as to what I am looking for , will gladly check it if someone could point me in the right direction .

Ignition coil ..hmmmmmmm....would a bad ignition coil allow the truck to start but not idle? Would it throw a code if bad? Would it create a cranking problem ?(not a starting problem ) Thanks for the help :)
