1997 Dakota 3.9 This thing started acting up on the way to work today it would cut out and at one point shut down at 65 mph and now is sitting in the drive way. I have checked all relays, and connections. I have noticed while this is going on i loose dash power but the odometer will blink off and on and the fuel pump will not cycle but wile all of this is happening you can crank the engine but there is no spark. I am a mechanic but this one has me stumped. Do you think it could be the PCM? I hate to spend the money for just a test.

Sounds like you could have a bad/loose ground somewhere.

With the key on, grab the wire harness that connects to the PCM on the right side fender and wiggle it. You should hear the relays and possibly the fuel pump cycle on. Am have the same problem with my 1992 model and my mechanic said to disconnect the harness, lubricate the contacts with dielectric grease and reconnect.

yeah bud..you definatly have a bad connection somewhere or...its a transformer with a mind of its own...hahahah...no. but i have also heard of people having issues with the pins in the pcm connections i think lubing them will be a good start and wont cost anything.

let us know what you find

I just went through the exact same problem on my 92.
There is a connector under the ECU that corrodes and breaks. I went nuts trying to find my problem. I checked both splices on the L fender, swapped all the relays, checked voltages, grounds, etc and everything checked out....except that.
It cranked but no spark, no fuel, no dash lights, no relays. Took it to my mechanic and he had it fixed in a couple hours after I told him what I had already done.

I found the problem with my truck. It was the pick-up stator located in the distributor. It's in a safety circuit that kills the fuel pump. Try it before you try a pcm if you are having the same problem. It only cost $32.00 at the parts store verses hundreds for a pcm.
