There’s a guy I know who rebuilds transmissions and in particular (A-518's)

Now he told me after they are rebuilt the shifting is still going to be off until everything is broke in (he recommends 300 miles of easy driving). Also he doesn’t refill ATF transmission fluid in any Mopar transmission that he rebuilds.

Sound like a con man to you??

what does he mean by he does not refill atf do
you mean he does not use the +4

Dextron is a big NO NO in these transmissions and
that is what most trans shops have in bulk and
than they add $hit additives to make it into +4
stay away from that guy

And no a rebuilt trans should shift just fine sure every trans will losen up a little after
break in but it should shift normal

Answer this question
does a new vehicle shift bad when new

NO

find a differant shop this guy is way out there
saying things like that every trans I rebuilt and
we are talking in the 100's all shifted just fine
from day one

Got mine rebuilt and had the same problem since then. Reverse is still out and the shifting is very harsh and seems like the pressure is very low.

He told me that I could get a refund but would have to take out all the "New parts" that was installed. Now of course this has already been several months ago since the rebuild.

So I haven't had any bussiness with him since.

This guy is an absolute joke. To bad I didn't know that before hand.

I refilled my transmission with pure motor oil. Of course it didn't last to long after I took off down the road at around 110 MPH.

I'm I stupid or what??

When you go to any trans shop ask to talk with the
guy who will be doing the actual work not some
counter person

do some reserch and ask some tough questions to
see if you want this guy working on your trans I
see many so called trans shops doing crap work
number one they should never be touching a trans

I had a guy come by today with a lincoln town car
with some play in his stearing and he shoed me an
estimet for $350 so I took a quick look and all
he needed was an idler arm and 1 tie rod end $85
worth of parts and about an hours work to install
and an alinement around a $150 job how does this
guy get $350 doing this job is behond me

Be carfull there are a lot of so called shops
out there that will squese you for every penny
they can get and they take advantage of anyone
they think knows nothing about cars I see this
happen more often to the lady's than men most of
these shops only last for 5 or 10 years and they
go under, I have been in business since 1977 and
my father opend the shop in 1969 I took over in
1977 so 32 years with me and 40 years totle we
have been here that's what honesty will get you.

I think the best way to find out about a shop is
from word of mouth if you here bad things stay
away

You seem to very experience with that issue (like going to prison for indecent public acts). You should do what LeaseMo did and fill your transmission full of motor oil.
