Arizona? Its warm there, and I'm not positive, but it is a desert. Should be dry for at least another 15 years....hopefully more.

The automatic tranny on my 2000 V-6 wont' shift into overdrive when it's below 10 degrees. That eats up my gas. Checked the fluid level.....it's fine. Stopped on the side of the road and shifting thru the gears did nothing. Also tried gunning it and then letting off the throttle to shock it with some torque. Only after the ambient temperature exceeded 10 degrees would it shift properly. I either need a tranny re-build at thousands or a fifty-cent sensor I guess lol.

Larry,

The reason it's so cold; we don't have Al Gore puffing hot air about Global Warming. I lived in Wyoming the late 70's and saw 40 degrees below zero for at 3 weeks straight. The cold weather ruined the batteries in 2 vehicles, broke fan belts, burst weak power steering pump hoses and radiator hoses.
I'm sure that you have seen all this and more. The record low temperature in the lower 48 states, I believe is 66 degrees below zero at West Yellowstone sometime in the 70s. No matter how you slice it 24 below zero..... colder than a Well diggers arse.

I see that we still have impersonating as a moderator when there isn't one.

You know why they bury lawyers 6 ft. deep?
Deep down they are really good folks.

The other day I heard it was so cold out that a lawyer had his hands in his own pockets instead of someone elses.

Yup, my Dakota won't shift into OD when it's -10. It sucks driving 25 miles with a loud exhaust ( louder now that both rear pipes rusted off the muffler ) at 2800rpm. When I'm done with work and drive back though, I get OD back. Must either warm up enough outside or ???

I'm okay with it though, it's designed to protect the transmission. I'd prefer it lasted and I pay a little extra in fuel due to it. I'll be happier once I get the new exhaust put on next month.

I have a 93 Dakota, 3.9 V6, 5 speed, manual. I have had it for 8 years (6 years in central MN, 2 years in CO), put on over 90k on it with minimal repairs. Yeah below 10 degrees there is not much heat in cab, takes the chill off though. Starts at minus 30-35 outside without being plugged in, love it. I got 15-16 mpg in town in MN, 16-17.5 intown in CO. I have gotten up to 21.7 mph on the interstate doing 68 mph.

It was -33f with -50 windchills in Northern Iowa here about a week ago. I warm up my truck for a good 3 or 4 minutes. Then after that put on the parking brake and drop the vehicle into drive. And let warm up for another 10 minutes. It seems to help the tranny warm up quicker. Went to Atf+4 this year and it helped slightly.

When its that cold if you can stay inside. Or go ice fishing!
