goin from 3.9 to a v8. is there a big difference in exhaust tone between 4.7 or 5.9? is it worth getting a 5.9 over a 4.7? would i have to step the rear up to 9.25, or would the 8.25 be ok? also, i hve a 3.92 rear, is the gearing too steep for the bigger engine? and is there a good place anyone knows of to find a good used engine that wont detonate the second it starts?

5.9 swap would be easier as everything from the engine
accessories to the motor mounts will be the same for the 3.9.

extensive work for a 4.7... especially electronics

I agree with intensedak39, the 5.9 would be easier, plus the 3.92 gears should be ok, just add some taller tires and go, if you plan on beating the snot out of it, I would go for a bigger axle (9.25)
As for the exhust note, I'm not sure, it could be more in the muffler than the engine. If using a fuel injected engine, you will still need a new computer, or rather one for a 5.9 (assuming that's what you use)
Good Luck

You have to agree that the smallest V8 Chrysler currently makes does produce a great exhaust note.
