I was wondering how people like you (Lesley) were blowing so much money on their trucks. Right now I'm paying $575 a month for my truck, $800 for my house, plus a phone bill, power bill, trash bill, long distance bill, internet bill, gas bill, water bill, and so on and so forth. Plus a honeymoon in August. (Plus you're single.) If my Dak was paid off, you can bet I'd be modding it up like crazy. Only 2.5 years to go :-D

Current mods: A MUFFLER. That's it. (For now.)
Future mods: Tonneau cover
Underdrive pulleys
Removal of clutch fan
K&N FIPK
17" rims
And much, much more...

Believe it or not Fourgiven, I am pretty frugal! Almost all of my mods came from ebay...
I don't buy new clothes and I do all the work on my house myself. I bought a 100 year old house in the mid-80s and have pinched and saved over the years to rid it of the pigeons, bats etc. that were residing in the attic... new roof, windows, furnace, wiring. I'm ripping up old subfloor right now to expose tongue and groove pine which I'm gonna sand this weekend. So it's pretty liveable now :)
But I had quite a few years where I walked to work or rode my trusty mountain bike because I couldn't afford a vehicle. I don't drink, smoke or go out much, so my obsession right now is to have some fun with my truck!

That's no different from what I do, Lesley, with 2 exceptions.....

1) If I tried to ride my bike to work, I'd be dead when I got there (it's about 40 miles to work)

2) I'm renting a house right now due to circumstances - and believe you me, when I buy a house, I will NOT be buying a spanking new one...I'll buy an older one and fix it up to what I want.

But I know what you mean. To be honest right now I'm paying for a LOT. I'm getting married in 3 months, and in essence I am paying not only for a new truck and a house, but I'm paying 2 times the bills I was 4 months ago, PLUS I am buying a lot of stuff I never needed before (lawn mower, weed wacker, garden tools, etc), so I'm tapped for now. The ONLY reason I bought the mountain bike is because it will get me physically fit, and it's got a longer warranty than my truck does *L* I get ALL my clothes from the Goodwill. The mall near it gives them the overstock clothes....so I get Gap jeans and Nautica shirts for like $3 and $4. :-D

It is a good feeling. I paid cash for mine and I don't mean my parents paid cash for it. I worked and earned the money myself! Granted she isn't the youngest or prettiest girl on the block, it's nice to be able to say "thats my truck" rather than "my mommy and daddy bought that for me." No offence to those who have had their truck given to them.

Yes, I am paying $575 a month for my truck. Why? Because I got a 3-year, 0.0% interest loan, and I want to have it paid off as fast as possible. If I was paying $575 for a Lexus, I would have it paid off in maybe 6 years, with a butt ton of interest. I have the satisfaction of knowing that they are getting NO extra money from me, on top of the fact that I got my truck at $500 under invoice, with a bedliner to boot. :-D

oh yeah...i was exagerating 575 is ballpark for an RX300 lease...not loan...RX300s are weak though, but they do look nice. if they only offered them with a V8....THEN I WOULD STILL BE WAY TOO POOR TO GET ONE

Congrats Lesley!

Shoot guys and gal, I'm paying $512 a month right now and I think that's plenty enough on a '98 Dakota! Then again ... that might be because it's my "Dakota Equity Loan" that absorbed a high-interest credit card for me. It's the truck that just keeps on giving! :-P

RX WHAT?? That price obviously doesn't include a model name. :-)

Thanks CW, what a simple kit it was too. Just 8 chrome polyvinyl sleeves that were slit up one side - just open and press onto the horizontal slats. They were filled with strong adhesive. It took about 15-20 mins. to put on.

hey chris W what year?

my parent bought mine for me, but it wasnt brand new by any means, it was a POS and sold for $3300 and actual value at the time was $5500, and i have made up the difference in fixing it up, so as soon as im off my parents cheaper insurance plan, its all mine, too bad thats like 8 years from now when im done with college and dental school :-0 and it will be completely worthless by then, altough i could then register it as a "collector" car i think, lol

oh well

i love my old slow 90, the only thing is i DONT COMPLAIN EVERY DAY ABOUT BEING SLOW LIKE SOME PEOPLE

and my truck will do 1/4 rough estimate of 19 or so, well so does my moms 91 ford explorer with the 4.0L EFI and more Hp, well it may be a second faster, but ill have to race them when i get my truck fixed, it been at the shop for 2 weeks i think now, and they still ahevent got to it, oh well, it worth the wait to get it done by this shop rather than the dealer, my family has had too many problems at the dealer and i no longer trust them, they do "diognostics" as long as they have the vehicle there and more often than not we take them to this shop my truck is currently at an they say its fine, also they are alot cheaper than the dealer, but they have earned a very good reputation and i cant wait till they get it done, also the guy who they contract out to do the trannys is the same guy who does it at the dealer, so i get the same quality work for half the dealers price, cuz we pay him directly, instead of us paying the dealer, then the delaer taking a cut then paying him, so actualy he makes more money and we are charged less, it makes best for all people involved, cept the dealer, which was founded by my dads great uncle but the families are so far removed now we dont get squat

im dont b!tching for this post, it went too long anyway
