i heard that you are not supposed to change the trans. fluid after so many miles. is it true? i have 190000miles is it safe to and if it is what all is needed.

It is all right to change it, you need a filter and a large pan to go along with the transmission fluid.
The large pan is to catch the transmission fluid. You will see where the filter goes when you get the pan off. Make sure you get ATF+4 transmission fluid.
